Energy Audits: Cutting Your Costs And Saving Energy

Does your home seem drafty?  Do your utility bills seem high?  If you answered yes to either one of these questions, an energy audit should be considered.  The simple fact is, many people unknowingly waste energy.   Areas of air infiltration within their structures have caused heating and cooling bills to skyrocket. A common assumption is that leaks through windows and doors are the lone contributors to these energy losses. In many cases, however, insulation issues and improperly sized heating and cooling systems are found to be much larger problems.  A comprehensive G-Tech energy audit is the first step to solving these issues and will provide you with all the tools and knowledge you need to make the necessary improvements.

Energy Audit Process

The G-Tech energy audit starts with a brief survey of utility bills. Although this may seem a little intrusive, it is quite helpful for us in the process of understanding where you currently stand and in deciding how much ground you can make up in energy savings.

We then perform a thorough examination of your structure using a blower door test in conjunction with an infrared imaging scan to pinpoint air infiltration.  This process always seems to be very revealing to our clients.  Infrared imaging allows us to detect many subtleties and gaps in insulation that are normally invisible to the naked eye.

Our energy audit process also involves an examination of duct work as well as heating and air conditioning units to determine appropriate sizing and efficiency.

Finally, we implement a software analysis to complete the process.  This provides us with a "digital map" of your structure and allows us to give you the tools you need to make your structure both comfortable and efficient.

PPAs - Let a Third Party Pick Up the Bill
A PPA is a power purchase agreement that acts a legal agreement between a power purchaser and an electricity generator. Power Purchase Agreements aid in the construction of independently owned (not owned by a utility) electricity generating assets. The power purchaser purchases energy from the electricity generator. These arrangements often make it possible for the electricity generator to finance the construction of the power producing facility (e.g. Solar Module) only to sell the power back to the occupier of the property at rate much less than that offered by the local power company.
LEED Certifications - Green Tax Credits
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction.
Selling Surplus Energy Back to Local Grid
Federal legislation known as the Public Utilities Regulatory Policies Act, states that any private renewable energy producer in the United States has the right to sell power to the local utility company. This is known as "net metering" and depending on your local power company and how much surplus power you can produce, net metering can be quite profitable.
Incentives and Grants for Energy Production
There are many State and Federal tax and direct monetary incentives to promote the production of Energy by business' and individuals. These incentives vary by state and are sometimes determined on a project-by-project basis. In many cases these grants and incentives cover much of the initial costs of procuring and constructing analternative energy project.

Why Choose Us?

Specialization in Midwest Climate Solutions
Differing solar technologies react differently to varying sun exposure and climates, so it is necessary to have the technological resources and experience to make an energy plan that is optimal for our midwest climate. New breakthroughs in solar technology now make it possible to harvest lower amounts of sunlight that were not possible in the past. This new technology is more durable and costs less to install than more traditional solar technologies.

Providing Full Service Energy Solutions
Energy solutions are not just the installation of solar or wind technologies. Much goes into making a long-term technological and economically viable solution. Our focus on “Energy Audits” and “Site Survey” assessments make the task of making informed and results driven decisions more manageable and strategic.
Highly Trained Audit, Design, Installion Teams
When it comes to meeting incentive guidelines and making the correct assessment the first time, there is no substitute for experience and training. Our teams have received NABCEP and LEED training specifically designed to aid them in their specific tasks and responsibilities.
Access to Wide Selection of Manufacturers
Through our unique vendor relationships we can offer our clients direct pricing and the latest and greatest in technologies available. Different manufacturers make new advancements every year and it is therefore imperative to represent a multitude of brands and companies as opposed to an exclusive relationship that some in the industry think of as offering a total solution.
One-on-One Project Management Contact
In order to see a project through, we feel it is necessary to have the same individual that helped plan that project help -oversee it to completion. This philosophy helps to avoid common pitfalls that can cause delays and confusion in any project that has many teams and individuals working towards the same goal.
Free Initial Energy Consultation
We are happy to walk you through an overview of what your energy options and concerns are going forward. One of our Energy Integrators can help you decide whether energy production and conservation makes economic sense for you through an offsite consultation that includes an assessment of your location through GPS Solar Software and an overview of your current energy cost and consumption.
